What is fast charging in Xiaomi smartphones
Smartphone fast charging technology is called Quick Charge. It allows an almost discharged device to charge up to 100 percent in almost twenty, twenty-five minutes.
There are several generations of this technology:
- The first generation Quick Charge appeared in 2013. Then, only top-end smartphones with a SnapDragon processor were equipped with such a function. At that time, it allowed you to charge the device 40 percent faster than normal;
- Quick Charge second generation. Speed increased by 60 percent in half an hour. To recharge the gadget, a power supply with a voltage of 9 V and a power of 2 A was required;
- The third fast charge series included intelligent voltage control. This allowed the processor to independently select the desired voltage for a certain amount of time;
- and the last series allows you to charge more than half the battery capacity in a quarter of an hour. Technology available for SnapDragon 835 microprocessors in high-end phones.
As already mentioned, the technology fully reveals itself only in the flagship series. For the rest of the smartphones and tablets - 60 percent in half an hour.
Which Xiaomi Phones support Quick Charge?
In order to understand which Xiaomi phones support one or another version of the technology, the table below is given:

Attention! Some devices may not be included in the table. To check whether QC works or not on a specific model, you need to connect the phone to a 9 V and 2A power supply. If lightning appears in a circle, then the technology is present.
How to enable the fast charge function in xiaomi
Before connecting the power cord to the smartphone, you need to know three conditions that the user must comply with if he wants to use Quick Charge:
- To enable the QC function, you must have an original power supply of 9 Volts and 2 Amps. This is a feature of company gadgets. The technology is not compatible with other chargers.
- Phone firmware does not have to be custom. The function is supported only on official MIUI firmware. Will not work for others.
- All updates must be installed to the latest version. Smartphones with old firmware may not support this feature.
After the user is convinced that he has chosen the right power supply and the model of the mobile gadget supports Quick Charge, you must do the following:
- Plug the unit into a power outlet.
- Plug the USB cable into a special input that is intended for it in the charger.
- And the back end of the cable to connect with the gadget.
- If the phone model, firmware and charger are original, then the quick charge will turn on itself, since the function is already embedded in Xiaomi. Nothing else to do.
If it is not there, then the smartphone will begin to charge in normal mode.
Important! Wireless charging is not compatible with QC technology. Therefore, the phone will charge in normal mode if the network connection is over the air.
How to disable fast charging on Xiaomi
Disable QC is not possible.Again, all due to the fact that the function is built into the firmware and automatically turns on when the charger is connected and also automatically turns off if you turn off the mobile gadget from the network.
Attention! Some manufacturers of mobile devices have implemented a quick charge off button in phones. But Xiaomi has not yet done this.
Is fast charging harmful for phones
The first thing a user should remember when using the Quick Charge adapter with conventional devices is that increased voltage can ruin a gadget that is not designed to be charged using QC technology.
Secondly, there is an opinion that this function leads to quick wear of the phone’s battery. In fact, there are no reliable facts yet that QC technology led to a decrease in battery capacity or battery failure under certain conditions.
It is recommended to alternate charging the mobile device from the charger with an increased voltage and from the charger with normal operation. Continuous use of QC technology can lead to reduced charge cycles.
Thirdly, now mobile gadgets become obsolete two years after the release of the model. Therefore, even if the function is capable of destroying the battery, the user will already have time to purchase a second much newer smartphone during this time.
The user must observe the following precautions when charging the device:
- Do not put it under thick fabric products, such as pillows, blankets;
- Do not put on a cover.
Since the phone can get very hot and this heat must go into the atmosphere so as not to cause overheating of the boards or chips inside the mobile gadget.
