Large batteries

A barrel battery is one of the most common types of dry power sources. They make it possible to provide a reliable supply of electrical devices, such as portable tape recorders, Geiger counters, and others. Consider the most common options for such batteries.

Type C round battery

The power source is not very common, but still quite in demand. It is the same height as a finger-type battery, but 2 times thicker in diameter:

  • length 50 mm;
  • diameter 26.2 mm.

The mass of an element is usually 37 grams. Voltage is 1.5 V. All type C batteries are dry-charged.

Such elements are used quite widely, due to their compactness and large capacity. Most often, these batteries can be found in various household appliances:

  • tape recorders and other sound-reproducing equipment;
  • lanterns;
  • some types of video equipment;
  • toys.

No less widely used in measuring equipment:

  • multimeters;
  • various types of counters;
  • some types of signaling devices.

Thus, they are found everywhere. In most cases, the manufacturer assumes the use of several power sources at once. This makes it possible to obtain sufficient current for the operation of the appliance. Also in this case, the service life of the power source is significantly increased.

Large Type D round battery

The large round type D battery is one of the most popular power sources (only more popular AA and AAA) Such elements have great power, which allows them to be used in a wide variety of devices, including very energy-intensive ones, such as a Geiger counter and its analogues. These galvanic cells have been manufactured since 1898, and are currently leaders among their analogues.

Battery 373 (type D) has the following dimensions:

  • height - 61.5 mm;
  • diameter - 34.2 mm;
  • the mass can vary between 66-141 g.
  • The voltage of the galvanic cell is 1.5 V.

This is the largest cylindrical battery, so they are called a barrel or just a barrel. They are used very widely, as they have a large capacity and can produce a fairly large current.

As a rule, if you are told that a large battery is required for the device, then in almost all cases it is a barrel of type D.

These elements were originally developed for use in powerful flashlights. Gradually with the development of electronics, more and more often they began to be used in other devices. At the same time, the size did not matter, the main parameter that attracted engineers was capacity.

3R12 and 3LR12

At the moment, this is the most common type of battery in portable electronics. The most famous manufacturers are Duracell and Energizer.

Large 3336 square battery

Now labeled as 3R12 or 3LR12. In fact, these are three R12 or LR12 elements installed in one housing (R is a salt element, and LR is an alkaline element). Between themselves, they are connected in series. The result is a rectangular battery with an output voltage of 4.5 V. The size corresponds to the elements used in the kit, these are the parameters:

  • height - 67 mm;
  • width - 62 mm;
  • thickness - 22 mm.

In the USSR, it was often used for flashlights.Due to the increased voltage, it was possible to use a more powerful light bulb, providing bright lighting. Also found in some radio devices. At the moment, practically do not apply.
